The Alzheimer's Project

Alzheimer's is something I see every day. From my early diagnosed patient who forgets to eat, to my patients with advanced alzheimer's who have forgotten how to eat. It's sad and it's frightening. I didn't think I could keep working with these kinds of patients because of how emotional it made me. I'm not any less emotional now, but I can control it better when I'm around them.

One particular patient I remember, we'll call him Jim for the sake of his privacy and so I don't get myself sued, passed away a few days ago. The last time I saw Jim, his very capable wife was tellling him she loved him and smothering him with kisses.

It's the most feared disease in the U.S. right behind cancer.
5 million men and women in the country have Alzheimer's.

"If we fail to cure Alzheimer's disease in the years and decades to come,
we are facing an enormous increase in human suffering." -
Richard
J. Hodges, MD

I don't know where I'm really going with this, I just want to spread the word. I know a lot of people who know at least one person with Alzheimer's. For those of you who are touched by a friend or family member with Alzheimer's, there are a few websites you can visit to learn more and even donate to Alzheimer's research, to get started visit this website:

p.s. I will cure it someday!

the boneless tongue

I've had this running through my head for the last couple of days.

The boneless tongue so small and weak,
Can crush and kill declared the Greek.

The tongue destroys a greater horde
the Turk asserts, than does the sword.

The Persian proverb wisely saith
A lengthy tongue - an early death.

Or sometimes takes this form instead,
Don't let your tongue cut off your head.

The tongue can speak a word whose speed
The Arab says outstrips the steed.

While Chinese sages thus impart
The tongue's great storehouse is the heart.

From Hebrew wit the maxim's sprung,
Tho' foot may slip ne'er let the tongue.

The sacred writer crowns the whole,
Who keeps his tongue doth keep his soul.

Mrs. Adams (my very very talented high school drama teacher) used to make me recite it to practice my diction.

yeah, we're related

It blows my mind that my little sister out-performs me in every area of her life.
Except for weirdness. I win at that.
