The Alzheimer's Project

Alzheimer's is something I see every day. From my early diagnosed patient who forgets to eat, to my patients with advanced alzheimer's who have forgotten how to eat. It's sad and it's frightening. I didn't think I could keep working with these kinds of patients because of how emotional it made me. I'm not any less emotional now, but I can control it better when I'm around them.

One particular patient I remember, we'll call him Jim for the sake of his privacy and so I don't get myself sued, passed away a few days ago. The last time I saw Jim, his very capable wife was tellling him she loved him and smothering him with kisses.

It's the most feared disease in the U.S. right behind cancer.

I don't know where I'm really going with this, I just want to spread the word. I know a lot of people who know at least one person with Alzheimer's. I've had this running through my head for the last couple of days.
